Functional Responsibilities

Summary of functions:

1. Story Sourcing and Content Strategy:

  • Stay abreast of regional and national developments via close engagement with Country Engagement Specialists, leading cross-team collaboration and ad-hoc outreach. 

  • Conduct informal interviews with expert staff to uncover in-country stories, voices, and insights to inform build-out an editorial calendar and press-worthy content. 

  • Support the Head of Communications in mapping key global events, launches and other significant moments, setting clear, and timely deadlines for delivery.

  • Ensure a mix of content types and formats, evaluating the effectiveness of communications products using GA4, social media, and member survey data. 

  • Work with the other members of the Communications Team and the Monitoring and Evaluation Team to develop member survey questions that can inform communications efforts and content performance tracking.

2. Content Development and Quality Reviews: 

  • Engage expert staff early in the content production cycle to ensure the framing and structure of communications products are in line with Partnership standards. 

  • Facilitate collaborative product design, working with internal and external writers and multimedia specialists to develop engaging products that effectively incorporate images, videos, and graphics. 

  • Draft content that is informative, well-researched, and delivers clear value to our key audiences. 

  • Develop clear standards and guidance for NDC Partnership newsletter submissions and communications products to guide contributors. 

  • Maintain the Editorial Style Guide to ensure consistency in capitalization, use of terminology, acronyms, etc.  

  • Review communications products before publication, ensuring they align with AP Style and Partnership editorial, brand, and messaging guidelines. 

  • Oversee quarterly reviews of website content, ensuring information is clear, up-to-date and accurately and professionally reflects our brand and strategic messaging. 

  • Work with the Knowledge and Learning team to improve their products and leverage their insights more effectively for our target audiences. 

  • Package content for external vendors, providing clear guidelines to guide content development, in terms of both strategy and quality. 

  • Review the monthly Partnership newsletter and, where appropriate, related external newsletters released by other Support Unit workstreams. 

  • Review social media content, as required, to ensure it is technically accurate, clear, and engaging for our key audiences.

3. Campaign Design:

  • Develop, execute and iteratively adapt strategic campaigns aligned with NDC Partnership goals and strategic messaging in collaboration with the Head of Communications. 

  • Assemble and coordinate a campaign team of communications staff and technical experts to execute campaigns end-to-end. 

  • Plan and manage campaign timelines and deliverables. 

  • Direct the development of compelling campaign content for various channels, including social media, blogs and newsletters and external outlets, working in close collaboration with press specialists in the Communications Team. 

  • Develop and track appropriate campaign metrics, using them to inform campaign tactics and stakeholder reports. 

4. Internal Capacity Building:

  • Work with colleagues in other workstreams to identify, understand and engage target audiences more effectively through messaging strategies, channel mapping and product development or reshaping. 

  • Walk staff through guidelines for identifying stories and writing for different digital platforms, working in collaboration with press and multimedia specialists. 

  • Offer constructive, targeted feedback on content created by expert staff, with the aim of building their capacity to co-create communications products. 

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

  • M.A., M.S. or equivalent advanced degree, preferably in international relations, climate change, international development, economics, public policy, communications, or journalism.

  • B.A, B.S. or equivalent, preferably in international relations, climate change, international development, economics, public policy, communications, or journalism in combination with an additional two years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Experience

Required

  • With a Master degree, At least five years of experience working in climate change, development,communications and/or related fields. 

  • Strong project management skills, including both people and process management, to ensure coordinated delivery of products and campaigns.

  • Experience working with expert staff and translating technical content into user-friendly, audience-appropriate formats.

Asset 

  • Experience using qualitative and quantitative data to inform strategic decision-making.

  • Experience seeking and aligning stakeholder input, ensuring that all interactions are handled diplomatically and professionally.

  • Demonstrable ability to develop messaging and craft stories that align with and substantiates Partnership brand positioning and strategic priorities.

  • Skill in crafting high-quality, strategic and engaging content, demonstrating an ability to self-edit and provide incisive feedback to collaborators.

  • Experience or aptitude for proactively mapping steps to achieve strategic goals, assuming end-to-end ownership for campaign design and execution.

  • Strong research skills and attention to detail to ensure all communications are grounded in well-researched facts and up-to-date information.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of current discourse and developments in global climate and sustainable development policy

Language

  • Proficiency in English is required

  • Knowledge of another official UN language (French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Chinese Mandarin) is an asset.
