Primary Purpose:

The Coordinator of Dyslexia Services is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring a comprehensive program for scholars with Dyslexia throughout the Network. To this end they will collaborate with network compliance teams, school leadership teams, CMO staff and outside personnel to formulate, develop and evaluate the Dyslexia programming in the network.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Design network-wide tracking and monitoring of Dyslexia programs and services ensuring increased student achievement and on-going compliance to federal, state, and network policies. 
  • Collaborate with directors, teachers, parents, and other departments to coordinate a strong academic program that meets the needs of scholars with Dyslexia.
  • Provide network professional development for leaders, interventionists, and teachers around best practices for students with Dyslexia and ongoing training and support around network dyslexia programs.
  • Collaborate with Director of Evaluation, Director of Special Education, and respective teams to ensure compliance around respective programming in the network.
  • Develop program monitoring instruments and use data generated to guide program improvement and monitor scholar progress. 
  • Provide leadership in the coordination of network-wide initiatives.
  • Oversee early literacy and at-risk screeners as mandated by TEA.
  • Monitor research and data; suggest and support development of innovative program initiatives to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching/learning process.
  • Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy; keep abreast of current and impending legislation.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvement in the purposes, design, materials, and implementation of the instructional and other support programs.
  • Determine relevant data points and provide analysis to ensure appropriate supports and services are identified and implemented for scholars with dyslexia.

Documentation and Law

  • Monitor and communicate all Dyslexia related legislation, projects, and programs for grant, entitlement, and allocation opportunities relevant to the needs of the district.
  • Oversee the maintenance of records and reports for the Dyslexia programs and PEIMS filing, in addition to monitoring of documented services in related programs such as ESL, 504, Special Education.
  • Oversee the PEIMS process as it relates to the department; meet all PEIMS deadlines.
  • Ensure confidentiality of scholar information.

Consultation

  • Serve as liaison between district administrators and state and federal officials ensuring compliance and accountability issues for programs supervised.
  • Act as a resource to district and campus staff to help them better meet the specific needs of a scholar with dyslexia.
  • Obtain and communicate findings (including student achievement data) on curriculum and instruction effectiveness.

Finance and Inventory

  • Work with the Director of Federal Programs and Directors of Evaluation and Special Education to ensure funds for scholars with Dyslexia are allocated and used appropriately.
  • Assess program needs to calculate budget and cost estimates; manage budget efficiently.

Education, Experience, and/or Certification(s)

  • Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./ B.S.) from an accredited college or university required. Master’s degree is preferred but not required.
  • Experience Requirements: Minimum of three years in a Dyslexia, 504, Special Education or Reading Interventionist field is required. Network level experience is preferred but not required.
  • Special Skills/Certifications: Must have a valid Texas Teacher Certification and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional learning/development. 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Communication Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and apply common sense understanding and to carry out instructions in written or oral form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel, students, and parents. Strong verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Bilingual Skills: Mastery of both oral and written English with the ability to write general correspondence. Spanish speaking is a plus but not required.
  • Technology: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook). Ability to use basic office equipment and ability to learn and use other software and related technology resources as necessary to empower learning. Ability to use software to develop spreadsheets, databases, and do word processing. 

Physical Demands: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; occasional light lifting and carrying (up to 25 pounds). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods of time.

Work Environment: Standard office environment, though role requires frequent visits to multiple campuses across the DFW metroplex.

Starting Salary: $70,000
