Job Summary

Tong Xiaoyi & Jacob Gale are looking for a costume designer to support their latest project, Emptiness: Floating Through Molasses. Emptiness is dance theatre work that playfully explores the concept of emptiness in the context of mental resilience.

Job Description

Overview

Emptiness is dance theatre work that playfully explores the concept of emptiness in the context of mental resilience. Using a balloon as their starting point & comedy & clowning to undercut the seriousness of the discussion, Emptiness invites audiences to focus not on the emptiness itself, but on what tethers them when they’re feeling empty, how they can take up space within emptiness, & how they can play with emptiness to make it smaller & more manageable.

Information about the previous performance of this piece can be found at: https://www.tongdance.com/emptiness.

The selected designer will be expected to work with Tong & Jacob to begin exploring the costume design for the piece, progressing as far as having an initial design on paper. After this phase of activity, the intention is to apply for further funding where the design will be refined, finalised, & realised, with the exact process to be agreed with the successful candidate.
