The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the temporary full-time, non-tenure track faculty position of Counselor, English Performance Success, Adult Education Transitions, and ESL, De Anza College.
The Foothill – De Anza Community College District does not have a remote work policy. All employees are expected to be available to work in person and on-site per the requirement of the department.

Counselors who want to help students transition from Adult Education, corequisite writing support courses, and ESL into transfer-level coursework are encouraged to apply.
General Responsibilities:Under the direction and supervision of the Dean of Language Arts, provide a wide range of counseling and retention services to our diverse student population, including students transitioning from Adult Education and students who place into corequisite supported writing and ESL courses. Perform core counseling functions: academic, career, and personal counseling as well crisis intervention, outreach, college governance participation, program review and research, research counseling program and services best practices, training and professional development and other duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:In accordance with the Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) and Student Equity Initiative, counselors will deliver core services as their primary duties and responsibilities.
The delivery of core services should occur both on- and off-campus in multiple ways: in-person, on-line, individual and group meetings, workshops and other innovative ways.
Assist students in clarifying academic goals and selecting a major and establishing/maintaining enrollment priority. Establish a rapport with students; monitor and track students’ academic progress to ensure attainment of educational goal; maintain contact with students throughout their enrollment; and use an early alert system to ensure student persistence and success. Take students to career, leadership and enrichment events and conferences; invite speakers to discuss career and transfer options with students.
In collaboration with the Dean of Language Arts, department chairs and faculty in English, ESL and Math, counselors will develop effective retention interventions to reduce the achievement gap for target student populations (Latinx, African Ancestry, Filipinx students) and groups identified in the College Student Equity Plan: Veterans, Foster Youth, Disabled Students, and low-income students. Address the counseling and advising needs of students who place into Corequisite Supported English and ESL courses and students transitioning from Adult Education schools. Serve as a Language Arts Division liaison with the Counseling Division and other campus programs such as Physical Science, Math, and Engineering, Learning in Communities (LinC), Student Success and Retention Services, MPS, EOPS, and DSPS.
Provide orientation, career, transfer, discipline-related, student success (study skills, time management, academic probation) workshops. Provide staff development and in-service training for faculty and staff who teach basic skills courses and the Language Arts Division. Participate in college and division assignments and other departmental responsibilities. May teach certain counseling related courses (Introduction to College, Career Life Planning, Life Skills in Higher Education). Establish and maintain contact with K-12 and Adult Education partners. Develop other relevant liaisons and networks with on- and off-campus programs and agencies.
Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attendance at instructional department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and performing other duties consistent with the role of a Counselor. Counselors also have the opportunity to serve on District and college committees and participate in campus extra-curricular activities.

HIRING RANGE: $79,128.39 – $146,897.96 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant’s verified education and experience.
