Job Summary
Job Description
Project Overview: Emmeline Hartley (Filmmaker) and Rebecca Jennings (Sex Education Consultant at Raise Education) are leading a project called ‘Seeing In Colour’ supported by Innovate UK, with the aim of creating high-quality educational resources for schools and colleges centred around engaging scripted film & TV content. Their core focus is sexual consent and healthy relationships, and they are currently looking to curate clips from existing TV dramas that align with their unique approach to learning, and use them as a centrepoint for shaping some new resources. They are hoping to identify nuanced storylines featuring high-end writing and performances with inclusive on-screen representation that explore the project’s priority themes.
Role: Curation Lead
Type: Freelance Contract for approx. 2-3 month project
Dates: May – July (exact term to be agreed)
Rate: £5,000 flat fee
Place of work: Hybrid working. It is preferable for in-person work to take place in Birmingham as and when agreed, but we can discuss the feasibility and frequency of this in more detail at the interview stage as it will depend on a number of factors.
Role Description: As the Curation Lead for this project, you will be responsible for leading this curation process and identifying at least 15 clips that align with our themes and criteria, which we can share more information about once you have submitted an EOI. Ideally, you will already be familiar with a lot of drama content on BBC, ITV and Channel 4, and you will have a keen interest in the themes we are exploring (re: consent and healthy relationships).
Job Requirements
- Experience in content curation or programming, preferably relevant to scripted film/TV
- A university degree or at least 2 years work experience relevant to at least one of the following fields: Programming/Curation, TV/Film, Secondary Education (ideally with knowledge around PSHE/RSHE), or relevant psychology/sociology field
- Strong familiarity with scripted content on BBC, ITV, and Channel 4
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
- Creative thinker with a passion for storytelling and educational innovation
How to Apply
Please email a short expression of interest along with your CV to [email protected]. We will then send an outline of the specific themes and content criteria. If you are still interested in the role, we ask that you respond elaborating with any relevant knowledge and experience. We will then set up interviews that will take place in late April and early May, during which we will also have the opportunity to discuss the deliverables in more detail, and how they can be achieved within the time and fee allocated. We will begin the interviewing process before the deadline, so please ensure applications are in as soon as possible.
