Project
Over the past decade or so there has been sustained research interest in automated (meta-) heuristic design for real-world optimisation problems [1]. A core goal of research in this area is to develop more effective computational search techniques, whilst reducing the human effort required to design and implement such methods in the process. A close link exists between computational search techniques and machine learning, with increased interaction between data science and optimisation methods offering significant opportunities for improved performance when solving real-world problems. The successful candidate will undertake cutting edge research at the intersection of Data Science and AI, developing intelligent decision support systems, automatically designing new optimisation algorithms using machine learning approaches. As an applied research project, this studentship will allow the successful candidate to participate directly with industrial research teams, working with production-ready code.
