The department has extensive expertise in data science applied to health and well-being. A few specific project ideas could be around a) a model-based approach to navigating information by re-representing patient history over a model of the human body; b) data driven planning of healthcare workforce development; c) investigating well-being aspects of waste management in urban and rural areas; d) understanding the relationship between cause and effect in well-being; e) implementation and evaluation aspects of a social model of health and well-being; f) integration of patient and social care data towards improved patient care; or g) modelling at the interface of visual stress, built asthetics and work related visual fatigue. All WGSSS funded students are required to complete a funded Research in Practice placement of 3-months in total (or part-time equivalent). All students will have the opportunity to complete a placement in academia, policy, business or civil society organisations.

To receive WGSSS studentship, you must have qualifications or experience equivalent to an UK honours degree at a first or upper second-class level, or a masters. Students with non-traditional academic backgrounds are also welcome to apply.

The studentship funded by the ESRC covers tuition fees, an annual tax-free living stipend of in line with UKRI minimum rates (currently £19,237) and includes access to a Research Training Support Grant.
