The Communication and Publications Unit of the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) is seeking to recruit a Database Administrator.

The ETUI provides research and training support to the European trade union movement. The Brussels-based Institute conducts research into European issues of strategic importance for the world of labour and promotes education and training activities with the aim of enhancing the capacity of workers’ organisations to contribute to social dialogue and building a social Europe.
About the position
The ETUI is seeking a highly organised Database Administrator to be at the centre of the Institute’s data-related activities, relating both to internal management and organisation and to the external presentation of data via our website.
Within our dynamic, international research environment, under the supervision of ComPub’s head of unit, you will manage, secure, and optimise the Institute’s core data assets, including the European Works Councils Database (ewcdb.eu) and the CiviCRM system. This pivotal role involves ensuring the optimal technical functioning, data integrity, and security of these systems. Furthermore, you will drive the impactful dissemination of our research by helping to design and implement externally accessible advanced data visualisations (e.g., interactive dashboards), coordinating the efficient flow and accessibility of research data across all ETUI units and the public website. You will provide technical support and administrative guidance to internal staff on CRM usage and standard internal applications.
Key responsibilities
- Maintaining and administering the Institute’s core databases, including the European Works Councils Database (ewcdb.eu) and the Customer Relationship Management (CiviCRM) system, ensuring data integrity, security, and optimal technical functioning;
- Liaising with the IT department and external service providers;
- Designing, developing, and maintaining advanced data visualizations (dashboards, interactive graphs) using dedicated tools (e.g., Flourish, Tableau) to communicate complex research findings to external audiences;
- Coordinating the efficient flow and presentation of research data across different ETUI units to maximise impact and accessibility on the website;
- Managing user accounts, data cleanup, and administering the structure, custom menus, and forms within CiviCRM, including liaising with external technical partners for major system updates;
- Providing technical support and training to staff members on CiviCRM usage and assisting with the maintenance and dissemination of standardised internal applications (e.g., MS Office templates);
- Supporting events, and communication and publication process by creating webforms and managing data extraction for the dissemination of physical publications;
- Reporting analytics on a regular basis.
Requirements
- Education and Experience: A Master’s level degree or equivalent experience;
- Professional Experience: A minimum of two years of practical experience in Database Administration (design, integrity, security) and advanced management of complex CRM systems (e.g., CiviCRM, Drupal integration) in a professional or research environment;
- Specialised Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of CRM system administration and functionality (e.g., CiviCRM or similar);
- In-depth knowledge of database management principles, security protocols, and SQL or other relevant query languages;
- Practical knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Flourish, Tableau, Google Looker) and data transformation methods.
- Knowledge of the ETUI Context: Knowledge of the Institute’s activities and of the work of European institutions and trade union organisations is an asset;
- Language Skills: Excellent knowledge of English (main working language). Knowledge of other European languages is an advantage.
