About the Faculty of Health Sciences
Created in 2005, the mission of the Faculty is to improve the health of individuals and populations and to reduce health inequities through excellence in interdisciplinary research and education, in partnership with local, national, and global communities. FHS is committed to social justice, respect for human dignity, and equity. This research-intensive faculty is home to a team of more than 50 multi-disciplinary faculty members, working with lenses from the humanities, social sciences and life sciences across a wide range of health research topics spanning from discovery in the lab to applied interventions in community. The faculty hosts over 1800 students who are studying in undergraduate degrees in the arts and sciences, and graduate degrees including an applied master’s (MPH), research-focused master’s (MSc) and doctoral training (PhD). The Faculty maintains collaborative agreements and partnerships with the BC government, regional health authorities, the First Nations Health Authority, research centres, and other health agencies.

The Faculty of Health Sciences will be a leader in the generation and mobilization of interdisciplinary knowledge to understand and improve health and well-being.
The Faculty strives to improve the health of individuals and populations and to reduce health inequities through excellence in interdisciplinary research and education, in partnership with local, national and global communities and with a commitment to social justice.

The Dean
The Dean reports to the Provost and Vice-President Academic and provides strategic leadership and direction for advancing the Faculty’s mission in research, teaching, and community engagement. The Dean will play a critical role in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, supporting faculty recruitment and retention, and strengthening partnerships with public health organizations, health system partners, Indigenous communities, and global health institutions. The Dean will also work closely with SFU’s new School of Medicine to leverage synergies and promote a cohesive vision for health education and research.

The Dean will be a critical advocate for this non-departmentalized Faculty and will be responsible for the development, policy implementation, planning, program delivery, and budget management of the Faculty. A values-aligned, collaborative leader, the Dean will ensure high-quality education, robust research programs and activities, and exceptional scholarship, teaching and service across undergraduate and graduate spaces while fostering an environment in which students, faculty and staff thrive.
The Dean will bring a track record of leadership in a University and/or related health sciences organization and be appointable as a Full Professor in the Faculty of Health Science at SFU.

In accordance with BC’s Pay Transparency Act, the expected base salary range for this role is $220,000 – $275,000 per year.
