The season comprises three operas, three concerts and one dance production in repertory. The Deputy LX will play a key role in the fit-up, technical rehearsal period, and running of the season, ensuring the lighting rig and systems are maintained to a high standard and that all performances are delivered safely and consistently.
Working closely with the Chief LX and alongside a second Deputy LX, the role combines hands-on technical delivery, team supervision, and day-to-day operational responsibility within a busy festival environment.
Essential
– Proven experience as a Deputy LX, Senior Technician, or equivalent in opera, theatre, or live events
– Strong practical knowledge of:
Theatrical lighting systems and rigging
Moving lights, LED fixtures, and conventional lanterns
Control systems and desks
Power distribution and fault-finding
– Experience working in repertory or multi-show environments
– Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
– Strong organisational and communication skills
– A collaborative, solutions-focused approach
Desirable
– Experience working on opera or large-scale classical performance
– Experience with outdoor or temporary venue infrastructure
– Familiarity with common UK control platforms (e.g. ETC, MA)
– IPAF / PASMA or equivalent certifications
