The Strategic Partnerships Division (SPD) works to strengthen UN Women’s position as a partner of choice for gender equality and the empowerment of women (GEWE) among governments and private sector actors around the world. The Division does this by positioning GEWE in intergovernmental and multilateral fora, and engaging with governments and private sector corporations, foundations and individuals as policy, programme and resource partners. UN Women’s engagement with partners and the work of SPD is premised on the principle of holistic partnership including policy advocacy and resource mobilization.
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Director, SPD, the Deputy Director and Chief, Public Partnerships is responsible to support the overall management of the Division, specifically leading a team accountable for the relations with donor governments and public institutions and represent UN Women’s private sector portfolio as required in coordination with the Chief of Private Partnerships. This includes inter alia deputizing for the Director as required, the development and implementation of the fundraising and resource mobilization strategy and implementation plans to ensure the continued growth and predictability of both regular (core) resources and providing support to mobilization of other (non core) resources, advocating for and encouraging preference for high quality other resources within the spectrum of other resources contributions, managing the work of the Public Partnerships Section and representational functions including both public and private sector partners as required.
This includes: 1) supporting overall management of the Strategic Partnership Division including programmatic and budget planning, reporting and other functions; 2) planning, formulating, and implementing resource mobilization strategies and activities in close coordination with the Private Sector Partnerships Section; 3) leading and nurturing a corporate network for public-sector resource mobilization; 4) leading donor intelligence generation and supporting systems for effective reporting and increasing donor visibility and meeting donors’ visibility requirements; 5) representation duties including for the overall work of the Division as it relates to New York-based public and private sector partners in coordination with the Director and Chief Private Partnerships; 6) collaborating with internal partners across the UN system and leading corporate efforts, including under the Funding Compact, to increase UN Women’s involvement in joint programmes and United Nations pooled funds; 7) overseeing the building and maintenance of relationships with IFls, multilateral development finance providers and intergovernmental bodies including the G7 and G20; 8) leading and managing the public partnerships team, including UN Women Liaison Offices in Brussels, Copenhagen, and Japan; 9) working with other parts of the house including Legal to ensure that mechanisms and procedures for securing of donor funding are as streamlined and efficient as possible.
