Job Summary

Kenny Wax Ltd is one of the leading Production Companies operating in the West End and on Tour. We are looking for an experienced Deputy Head of Wigs, Hair and Make-up (WHAM) to join our team in London for the West End transfer of this new musical.

Job Description

Assist the Head of WHAM in the running of the department throughout rehearsals, tech and performances;
Attend rehearsals and fittings as mutually agreed between us, your department, and the WHAM Designer and/or Wigs Supervisor;
Uphold the high production standards set by the WHAM Designer and maintain the artistic quality of the original design;
Be responsible for the good maintenance of all wigs and hairpieces;
Dress and set the wigs/hairpieces, and assist the cast with the fitting of wigs/hairpieces;
Assist with quick changes during shows;
Provide advice or assistance with make up, ensuring it is in line with the original designs for the Production;
Deputise for the Head of WHAM when required;
Teach your track to members of your department, to ensure they can cover you;
Order and replenish department supplies;
Liaise with the Wigs Supervisor in regard to replacements, alterations or repairs needed;
Assist in training deps to ensure cover for your department;
Work collaboratively with all departments, including the theatre technical team;
Ensure WHAM equipment and backstage areas are kept tidy and secure;
Support rehearsals, promotional/marketing events and other calls;
Ensure a safe working environment is maintained and all Health and Safety procedures are adhered to;
Be a proactive and supportive member of the technical team;
Assist in compiling keeping up-to-date show paperwork (hard copy and digital);
Obtain VAT invoices for hires and purchases;
Maintain the department Health and Safety record and good housekeeping procedure;
Comply with the rules and regulations at the venues under the control of the Production;
Work in accordance with the Producer’s Health and Safety policy, which may include training;
Any other reasonable duty that would normally fall in the remit of a Deputy Head of WHAM based on industry norms, or as directed by the WHAM Designer, Wigs Supervisor, Production Manager, Company Manager, Producers or General Managers.

Job Requirements

Demonstrable professional experience working in a similar role in the West End or on Tour;
Previous experience of working on a West End musical;
Excellent Wigs/Hair experience and excellent technical skills;
Proven experience in working with textured and afro hair and all ranges of hair types;
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail;
A proactive and flexible attitude;
The ability to work closely with actors and creative teams, and handle confidential information with discretion;
The ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise;
Awareness of current Health & Safety legislation;
Knowledge of SOLT BECTU agreements.
