Project overview

With rapid changes to the global climate, population demographics, urbanisation and the regulatory and policy landscape impacting the real estate sector, we need to fundamentally rethink the way that we value real estate.

The aim of this fully-funded PhD is to develop a novel valuation model for the appraisal of future housing in the UK, assisting the real estate sector in more accurately identifying risks and transitioning towards a more sustainable and climate resilient future.

A mixed methods approach is proposed through surveys and interviews with a range of industry and professional stakeholders, along with scenario analysis. The project will analyse this data to produce a holistic valuation model and recommendations for implementation within the industry.

As well as a thesis, academic papers and conference presentations will be produced as part of the doctoral journey.

The doctoral candidate will:

·        Plan and prioritise own workload to achieve agreed research objectives

·        Conduct systematic literature review and desktop research

·        Gather and analyse quantitative and qualitative data from a range of sources

·        Identify and engage with stakeholders (such as industry professionals, policymakers, community and homeowners)

·        Write up results of research

·        Disseminate and present findings to appropriate internal and external groups, such as through research forums, conferences, journal publications

For your role in above research project, we are looking for a doctoral candidate who has:

  • An MSc degree with a background in Real Estate and strong understanding of property valuation
  • Interest in climate change risks and sustainability in the built environment
  • Good communicative skills and proficiency in English speaking, reading and writing
  • Experience of using quantitative and qualitative research methods, data collection and analysis
  • Independent attitude and ability to use initiative and judgement to resolve problems affecting the achievement of objectives and deadlines
  • Ability to communicate to a range of audiences
  • Desire to develop a career in academia and publish in top tier journals

Additional information for international applicants:

·        IELTS would be required (6.5 minimum, 5.5 in each component).

·        58-64 (minimum 51 in each component for UKVI purposes).

A tax-free stipend will be provided, at which the current rate is £19,237 per annum.
