Technology plays an important role in our daily lives, and has a transformative impact on businesses, strategic decision making, innovation potential and strategic competitive advantage. Businesses are now facing the new technical challenges of the adoption and use of a wide array of technological solutions such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and analytical tools that support businesses decisions (Business-to-Business – B-to-B; Business-to-Customer – B-to-C; global value chain relationships and supply chain relationships). Managing big data requires using different analytical tools and techniques (descriptive, predictive, prescriptive, etc.). However, technology now goes further and provides advanced analytical and technical approaches to the use of machine learning and provides important information for strategic decision-making. This project focuses on business decision-making for developing business strategies for superior performance and competitiveness, which depends on high quality information if organisations want to survive in a very technologically oriented, and unpredictable market in the future. Many organisations exert with their strategic decision-making due to the dearth of robust data-driven insights. Businesses are facing a new era of using technology, defined by AI. While there are significant ethical issues and disadvantages, many positive benefits can also be identified. The project focuses on significant contributions to data-driven/AI powered strategizing to improve the performance of organisations; their innovative capabilities and strategic advantage. There are many open questions about how businesses can use AI to develop competitive business strategies.
We welcome a research proposal with a clear aim, objectives, and a critical literature review to develop a potential conceptual model for developing business strategies with AI for organisations.
Academic Qualifications:
A first degree (at least a 2.1) ideally in business and management, date science or technology with a good fundamental knowledge of data analytics, AI and strategic management.
English Language Requirement:
IELTS score must be at least 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in each of the four components), Ither equivalent qualifications will be accepted. Full details of the University’s policy are available online.
Essential Attributes:
· Experience of fundamental analytics, AI and finance
· Competent in management roles across different business fields, overview of the whole company
· Knowledge of finance sector, technology, management strategy, quantitative research methods
· Good written and oral communication skills
· Strong motivation, with evidence of independent research skills relevant to the project
· Good time management
Desirable Attributes:
· Knowledge of statistical applications (SPSS, AMOS, R, WarpPLS, SmartPLS)
· Knowledge of qualitative research methods
· Creativity and passion for research
