Lane-changing exerts significant impact on traffic flow characteristics and traffic safety. A proper understanding of lane-changing impact is crucial for assessing existing models and developing models for connected vehicles and autonomous vehicles.

This PhD project intends to develop lane-changing impact models for different vehicle types and embed them in microsimulations tools for scenario testing.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1 honours degree (or equivalent) in relevant subject including, but not limited to, civil engineering, transport engineering, computer science, or control. A relevant master’s degree and/or experience is desirable. The ideal candidate will have understanding and experience of programming, a good level of mathematical understanding, and excellent written and verbal communication.
