Job Summary

The post is a temporary role that is expected to last for six weeks, to support the development of the digital collections in the Living Archive.

Job Description

The Living Archive is a collection of archival materials highlighting Black arts and heritage and an initiative to make these accessible for interpretation and research through establishing a digital archive. The Digital Archives Assistant will work with the Heritage Manager and Collections Archivist to assist with developing digital preservation measures for the Living Archive. The scope of work will include:

  • Working with Excel spreadsheets to input data about digital files.
  • Using software to generate metadata and checksums.
  • Identifying digital content that needs to undergo digital preservation.
  • Digitising archives at risk.
  • Inputting information onto the collections management system, Axiell.

Job Requirements

  • A strong interest in archives and heritage.
  • Awareness for good practice when handling archives.
  • Proficient IT skills and the ability to learn how to use unfamiliar software.
