Job Summary

The Director of English Learners Teaching and Learning will lead and oversee instructional programs, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning for English learners. This role involves guiding coordinators who design and implement professional development initiatives and providing coaching to educators to enhance their instructional practices. The Director will collaborate with staff to develop strategies that support the academic success and language proficiency of English learners.

What you will do

  • Oversee the design and deliver professional development opportunities for educators, focusing on effective instructional strategies, English language development, language acquisition, and cultural competency to enhance the learning outcomes for English learners.
  • Lead the collaboration with curriculum content teams to design and implement linguistically appropriate curriculum supports that are aligned with grade-level content and English Language Development (ELD) standards, ensuring English learners have equitable access to high-quality instruction across all grade levels.
  • Lead and evaluate English learner instructional and supplemental programs to ensure they meet state and federal guidelines, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with district goals.
  • Monitor and support EL coordinators, coaches, and teachers through coaching, classroom observations, and data-driven feedback, fostering high-quality instruction and equitable learning opportunities for multilingual learners.
  • Oversee supplemental EL programs, grants, and funding to maximize resources for multilingual learners, ensuring programs effectively support language acquisition, academic achievement, and student engagement.
  • Work closely with principals, instructional coaches, and district administrators to integrate ELD strategies into broader instructional initiatives, ensuring multilingual learners receive equitable, high-quality instruction across all content areas.
  • Use assessment data, program evaluations, and student performance metrics to identify trends, inform professional development, and refine instructional approaches, ensuring continuous improvement in English learner achievement.
  • Perform Other Duties as Assigned by the Executive Director to support the district’s mission and the success of English learner students.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related area of study Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • 5 years classroom instruction; supervision and administration Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Relates and interacts positively with teachers, other staff, students, administrators, central office personnel, parents, and the general public;
  • Communicates effectively in written and oral form; possesses excellent public speaking abilities;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a teacher leadership role (i.e., departmental/grade level chairperson, school leadership team member, etc.);
  • Evidence of effective leadership skills;
  • Demonstrated competency in adult learning theory and developing and leading professional learning opportunities for instructional staff and parents.

Licenses and Certifications

  • TN Administrator Required
  • ESL endorsement Required

Equivalency

Starting At: $123,617.87

Salaries are determined by factors relevant to the position which may include education, experience, and other qualifications. Final compensation decisions are made at the discretion of MNPS in alignment with organizational policies and procedures. The stated salary range for certificated teaching positions is calculated based on 201 days and should be viewed as a reference. All provided salary ranges serve as a general guideline.
