Team Introduction

The Business Development (BD) team is an integral part of a cross-functional team within Ginkgo to help develop and deliver new partnerships in the therapeutics space that reflect our business objectives. As the cell therapy BD lead, you will play an integral role in accelerating the growth of Ginkgo’s partnerships with innovative therapeutic and vaccine companies. You will lead the expansion of Ginkgo’s partnerships with cell therapy partners ranging from early-stage biotechs to large pharma companies, from defining Ginkgo value propositions, to the conceptualization of partnership frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Identify the most compelling external partnership opportunities
  • Act as the subject matter expert on Cell Therapy within the BD team and be responsible for driving commercial decisions 
  • Collaborate closely with the deal transaction team to lead agreement discussions, structure deals and lead deal negotiations with potential partners; in addition to leading deals, support and mentor BD team members with deal sourcing, deal structuring and negotiations.
  • Work closely with Technical teams to build and execute value propositions within Cell Therapy to enable cultivating new research collaboration deal opportunities.
  • Grow Ginkgo’s network within the Pharma ecosystem including within early-stage biotechs to large pharma companies.
  • Represent Ginkgo at industry events and shape the SynBio agenda across the industry.
  • Travel, as necessary, for conferences or partner meetings.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum BSc degree in Life Sciences with 8+ years previous experience in biopharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related industries.
  • Experience in negotiating complex research collaboration and licensing deals in Cell Therapy R&D
  • A solid understanding of the drug discovery and Cell Therapy market including CARs (chimeric antigen receptor) and iPSC (induced pluripotent stem cell)-derived cell therapies 
  • Ability to build and present business cases to influence decisions across complex internal and external organizations

Preferred Capabilities and Experience

  • PhD or MBA preferred 
  • Prior experience in life sciences strategy consulting, or business development or corporate strategy roles at a Biotech/Pharma Company
  • Understanding of the synthetic biology and drug discovery / development a plus
  • Prior experience within a fast-growth company or entrepreneurial environment is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to partner effectively with the executive team and cross-functional leaders throughout the company and communicate thoughtfully to diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment, self-motivation, and drive, and enthusiasm about being a part of Ginkgo’s mission

Total compensation for this role is market driven, with a starting salary of $175,000+, as well as company stock awards. Base pay is ultimately determined based on a candidate’s skills, expertise, and experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental & vision coverage, health spending accounts, voluntary benefits, leave of absence policies, Employee Assistance Program, 401(k) program with employer contribution, 8 paid holidays in addition to a full-week winter shutdown and unlimited Paid Time Off policy.
