Job Summary

Responsible for college-wide coordination and support of all ESL pathways: Continuing Education Units (CEU), Semester Credit Hour (SCH) and Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Program ESL courses. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Manage coordination of overall operations of the ESL program, including scheduling, resource allocation, and program evaluation.

Assess the language learning needs of the target community and align ESL programs to address needs.

Develop and implement effective student recruitment strategies to reach target populations.

Evaluate and implement curriculum, instructional materials, and teaching methodologies for ESL classes.

Collaborate with community partners, such as schools, businesses, and local organizations, to expand the reach and impact of the ESL program.

Recruit, hire, and train qualified ESL instructors who are proficient in language teaching techniques and responsive practices in coordination with ESL Departments’ leadership.

Observe and evaluate instructor performance and provide ongoing professional development opportunities for instructors to enhance their skills and knowledge in coordination with ESL Departments’ leadership.

Ensure adherence to program policies, procedures, and quality standards by instructors and staff.

Manage the student enrollment process in collaboration with relevant ESL Departments’ leadership, including intake assessments, placement, and registration, and provide comprehensive support services to students, such as academic advising, counseling, and social services referrals.

Monitor student progress, identify challenges, and implement interventions to ensure student success.

Develop and manage the program’s budget, ensuring efficient and effective utilization of resources, and collaborate with ESL Departments’ leadership.

Establish data collection systems to track program metrics, such as enrollment, attendance, and student outcomes and analyze the data to assess the effectiveness of the ESL program and identify areas for improvement.

Collaborate with external evaluators, as needed, to conduct program assessments and implement recommended changes.

Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in one of the following fields: English, Linguistics, Education (specializing in bilingual education/ESL or cross-cultural education), Foreign Languages, Speech; or a Master’s degree in any field with an endorsement or certification to teach ESL in a public school district, or a CELTA (Certification for English Language Teaching to Adults) required
  • 5 years’ related experience at an institution of higher education required

Working Conditions

General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
