Brief Position Overview 

In support of our land grant mission, we seek a collaborative, dynamic, and creative leader who is excited to support offering our high-quality teacher preparation programs to individuals across the state of Montana. Specifically, we seek qualified candidates to lead our expanding offerings for alternative teacher licensure pathways. The successful candidate will provide leadership for recruitment to and program development of our growing alternative pathways programming; these programs include, but are not limited to, our Masters in Arts of Teaching pathway, our 2+2 program, and our Teaching Residency program

General Statement 

The Department of Education prepares highly qualified professional educators and administrators through exemplary campus and distance-based programs and field placements in quality public and private schools. In addition, the department contributes to the state of Montana and the nation through the faculty’s active research and outreach efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities 

Students Services/Advising (60%)

  • Provide leadership for recruitment and initial screening of candidates for alternative teaching licensure pathways including, but not limited to, Teaching Residency, 2+2, and Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) programs.
  • Oversee admissions for the MAT program, including guiding potential candidates through the admission process; serve on admissions committee.
  • Program onboarding for all alternative pathway programs.
  • Advise student in alternative pathways, including ensuring timely retention and graduation of students.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the Field Placement and Licensure Office on alternative pathway student placements and summative recommendations for licensure.
  • Contribute to stakeholder collaboration and communication between partnering school districts (Teaching Residency, MAT programs), other MUS institutions, and community and tribal college partners (2+2).
  • Collaborate with EHHD advising surrounding alternative pathway engaged students.
  • Work with students to understand field experience options for each pathway and provide advising support through field experiences.
  • Field inquiries about the teaching profession and post-baccalaureate options for licensure state and nation-wide, including ensuring that students are aware of programs for which they may qualify.
  • Maintain updated working knowledge of Montana licensure, issues, and trends, as well as nationwide trends in teacher education and licensure to support our departmental goals of service and outreach statewide.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Program Management (30%)

  • Continue to develop alternative teaching pathways, including but not limited to the MAT, Teaching Residency, and 2+2 program coursework.
  • Collaborate with departmental assessment and accreditation team to facilitate data-driven decisions around alternative pathways.
  • Serve as the Alternative Pathways Program Leader, ensure that the MAT, Teaching Residency, and 2+2 programs meet all assessment and accreditation guidelines.
  • Support faculty with alternative pathways program coursework development through a working knowledge of alternative teaching pathways, including but not limited to the MAT, Teaching. Residency, and 2+2 programs.
  • Maintain Alternative Pathways Website and program catalog pages.

Summer Field Experiences (10%)

  • Co-construct and co-lead two summer camps to support EDCI 538 and EDCI 539.
  • Provide support for camps through logistics leadership.
  1. Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  2. Master’s degree in education or related field upon start date, or a combination of education and/or applicable experience.
  3. General knowledge of teacher education licensure pathways.
  4. Demonstrated experience working with adult learners and/or experience with undergraduate students.
  5. Experience working in/with K-12 schools and stakeholders.
  6. Demonstrated competence organizing and prioritizing multiple work assignments, meeting deadlines, and exercising adaptability to changing priorities while maintaining a positive, effective, and professional attitude.
  7. Demonstrated competence using standard office technology, including personal computers, multiple software platforms, copiers, and other devices. Software may include word processing, spreadsheets, electronic calendars, and e-mail. Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
  8. Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  9. Doctorate in Education (Ed.D, Ph.D) or related field upon start date.
  10. Significant knowledge of and experience with both traditional and alternative teacher education licensure pathways.
  11. Knowledge of university and departmental program requirements, policies, and procedures relevant to faculty, staff, and students.
  12. Experience with collaborating with universities, K-12 schools, the Montana Board of Public Education, and/or the Office of Public Instruction.

The Successful Candidate WillThe successful candidate must be available for occasional travel and recruitment events.
