Provides strategic leadership and direction for the communications and media relation functions of the Charlotte Campus. Creates and executes internal and external campus communications plans to promote the university’s initiatives and advance the university’s reputation.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develops and executes communications campaigns to promote and raise awareness of key university initiatives among targeted audiences and advance the university’s and the campus’ image and reputation
  • Creates and implements media outreach opportunities to promote the university by generating earned media coverage by national, regional, local, and trade media
  • Advises and/or consults with campus administration and university communications on decisions involving internal and external communications to provide effective and accurate communication strategies, messages, and goals for a variety of audiences
  • Manages media relations inquiries, while considering the university’s priorities and the potential impact of the media coverage
  • Serves as a university spokesperson and collaborates with deans, department chairs, and faculty members to identify and organize communications and media outreach efforts to promote members as experts in their field
  • Collaborates with internal university departments to develop and coordinate marketing and communications content, as well as print and digital collateral
  • Assists with campus-based social media platforms by coordinating with the department, as needed
  • Assists in managing the negotiation and oversight of paid media vendor partnerships in the Charlotte region
  • Serves as the editor and writer for internal and external campus communications
  • Coordinates and/or executes campus photography and video needs for various events
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
  • Moderate amount of experience working in communications, public relations or other related experience

Please note: Qualified candidates must live or relocate within a daily commuting distance of the Charlotte Campus location upon hire.
