Working from an orientation of empathy for the faculty experience, drawing upon personal experience in higher education teaching, this leadership position champions “teaching as a student success intervention.” The Director of Teaching Programs coordinates teaching-related programs of the Delphi Center, including, but not limited to, a suite of faculty professional development programming, the Teaching Innovation Learning Lab (TILL), the annual Celebration of Teaching and Learning conference, and various online resources. This Director directly supervises a team of four but also works collaboratively to leverage resources of the Delphi Center in support of Teaching Programs. As a member of the Delphi Center Leadership Team, the Director of Teaching Programs works closely with other Delphi Center directors to achieve strategic goals, fostering particular synergies with the Evidence-driven Inquiry and Impact (EdII) and Instructional Design & Technology (IDT) teams. Functioning as a change agent, they advocate for necessary resources and inspire faculty to achieve aspirational teaching excellence.
As the Delphi Center’s point person for advancing the strategic value of excellent teaching, the Director of Teaching Programs builds and maintains strong collaborations with key institutional partners such as Faculty Affairs, the HSC Office of Educational & Professional Development, and associate deans for undergraduate education. This position ensures UofL instructors are equipped to optimize student learning and success. They embody the concept of the scholarly practitioner, staying current with research and best practices in course design and teaching methods and maintaining a personal agenda of scholarly inquiry related to teaching effectiveness. Highly conversant with the affordances of digital course modalities, they guide faculty in effectively leveraging technology to enhance student engagement and learning.
