Steptoe LLP, a Washington, DC-based Am Law 100 firm, is actively seeking a Director or Senior Trade Policy Advisor with 10+ years of relevant experience to join the Firm’s International Trade and Regulatory Compliance practice group in its Washington, DC office.

Essential Functions

      • Working with ITRC partners to run trade policy matters for our clients, both day-to-day “blocking and tackling” and development and execution of policy and advocacy strategy. This may include:
      • Developing advocacy materials, such as white papers, talking points, letters, draft text (e.g., legislative, regulatory, trade agreement, executive order), and communications materials
      • Coordinating, attending, and leading meetings with federal officials
      • Researching and writing about trade policy issues and developing creative solutions to help our clients
      • Monitoring and analyzing legislative, regulatory, and political developments for a wide variety of clients
      • Covering executive department/agency and Congressional hearings, and relevant trade association and think tank events
      • Building relationships with executive and legislative branch officials; companies, trade associations, and other stakeholders; embassy officials, and staff of economic, communications, and public affairs consultancies

Minimum Qualification

      • At least five years of executive or legislative branch experience.
      • 10+ years relevant experience
      • An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution is required, with Master’s or law degree preferred.

Work Environment

      • Non-Smoking Environment
      • Must be available to work beyond regular days and hours
      • Available to work from9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday
      • Must be able to work under tight deadlines and in stressful situations

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $249,000 – $259,000. The actual base salary offered will be dependent upon the applicant’s experience and qualifications, as well as other job-related factors, including but not limited to, relevant skills, education, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, geographic location.
