Job Description
Are you interested in working on one of Disney’s most iconic musicals? Disney is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to join as Deputy Head of Stage on Disney’s The Lion King on a fixed term basis. Working with the Head of Stage, this staff member will help with the day to day of running a large-scale musical to maintain the excellence of the show.
- This technical position is a senior role within the department, reporting to the Head of Stage.
- The candidate will be required to cover for the Head of Stage and other Deputy Head of Stage, Head Carpenter and Deputies in stage, props and Foy flying and will include arranging, managing and staffing rehearsals and other related departmental calls.
- The ideal candidate will have experience of leading a stage team in show, rehearsal and maintenance conditions.
- The candidate will have experience of quick problem solving and be able to work both individually and as part of a team in a dynamic environment
- This Successful candidate will be required to learn and move between approx. 14 backstage plots on the production (this could vary night to night) so experience within a similar role and on a large scale is desired.
- The successful candidate will have previous experience of work positioning, work restraint, and access and rescue in a similar environment. Further training will be provided.
- A working knowledge of Pegasus Foy flying system is essential, further training will be provided.
- This role will require the candidate to undertake heavy lifting and manual handling. Training will be provided
- A good knowledge of the use of hand and power tools is an advantage. Training will be provided as required
Job Requirements

- Excellent problem-solving skills and use of own initiative.

- Knowledge of setting up and maintaining stage systems and scenery.
- Ability to work at height.
- Carpentry and metalwork skills.
- Knowledge of stage crafts and methodology.
- Understanding of rigging and automated/counterweight flying.
- Knowledge and understanding of H&S legislation such as LOLER, PUWER and WAH.
- Experience in a similar role within a large-scale musical production working with an international cast is highly desirable.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist the Head of Stage, liaising between all departments, Production and General Management Teams to ensure the smooth running of all rehearsals and day-to-day changes that might impact the running of the Production
- Assist the Head of Stage to teach new members of staff and deps
- Perform daily setup and pre-set
- Ensure an awareness of understudy and swing performances and make necessary adjustments
- Ensure all Stage systems and equipment are in working order
- Learn and execute the tracks for the Stage department
- Attend rehearsal, technical, dress and understudy rehearsals as required to set up scenes
- Maintain and repair aspects of the stage scenery as instructed and dictated by the artistic requirements and technical teams
- Handle any problems that occur during performances quickly and calmly
- Report and feedback show related issues in a timely manner
- Work in accordance with Disney’s H&S Policy and maintain a good working knowledge of all relevant legislation and practices
