Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Division Director of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery to join our Department of Surgery, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple, TX. The Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Division presently consists of 3 cardiac surgeons, 2 general thoracic surgeons, 16 mid-level physician assistants/nurse practitioners, and 4 transplant/VAD coordinators. The Division performs over 600 cardiac cases, 25 heart transplants and 300 general thoracic surgery operations per year.
The position will have direct reporting structure to the Chair of the Department of Surgery Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple and will have direct responsibility and oversight on quality, patient outcomes, financial performance, strategic planning, program building, and growth.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Clinically and administratively lead the division of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery
- Ensure high quality outcomes and performance in all clinical programs and reporting data (e.g. STS database, UNOS, SRTR, and NSQIP)
- Build high reliable teams for multidisciplinary care of patients with cardiovascular and cardiothoracic diseases.
- Strategic planning and growth of the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery
- Promote faculty/professional development of those in the division.
Qualifications:
- Experience in leadership, quality and operations for a cardiovascular and thoracic service.
- Strong leadership as well as organizational and communication skills needed to effectively operate in the complex environment of regional integrated health system, and to effectively manage conflicting agendas.
- High energy and enthusiasm balanced with a highly professional demeanor and strong executive presence.
- Experience in facilitating and coordinating physician alignment activities, including building strong relationships internally within the Department and the institution, and externally with the community physicians in the region.
- Outstanding clinical experience with understanding of the clinical enterprise and the patient care delivery process with the knowledge to manage and build clinical practices.
- Knowledge of and experience developing quality infrastructure, including development and implementation of decision tools, clinical protocols and guidelines, care management programs, and outcome measurement assessments.
- Working knowledge of information technology and medical informatics with a track record of introducing information technology into clinical practice.
- Capability to succeed in different environments as an effective change agent, capable of making tough decisions.
- Ability to build consensus and function as a team player who is willing to work with other departments to leverage individual and team strengths
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple is the flagship facility serving as the tertiary and quaternary referral center for our Central Texas Division and offers several advanced cardiovascular and thoracic surgical programs, including heart failure (heart transplant and ventricular assist devise program), revascularization, structural (valve replacement and repair and TAVR program), Center for Aortic Diseases, adult ECMO, and a robust center for minimally invasive thoracic surgery including esophageal and lung cancer.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctorate Degree in Medicine
- Licensed to Practice Medicine in the state of Texas by the Texas Medical Board
- Where Applicable – Employee shall be currently board certified in his or her specialty or demonstrate active pursuit of board certification as defined by the appropriate specialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties or the Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists
