VCA Veterinary Specialists of the Valley is seeking a Doctor Assistant to complement our talented Oncology Department Team in Woodland Hills, California. We have full-time, 10hr shifts available, with the flexibility to work at least one weekend shift.

The hourly range for this position is $19-$23. Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials.

Doctor Assistants are responsible for:

  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively to communicate with doctor, coworkers, and clients effectively and accurately. 
  • Must be friendly, outgoing, “people-oriented,” positive, and able to always maintain a professional and respectful attitude. 
  • Must possess proficient telephone and computer skills to maintain accurate medical records including client records with charges, medical history, laboratory/diagnostic reports.
  • Must be able to foster and maintain strong and professional relationships with clients and referring veterinarians. 
  • Assist clients with updates during their pets appointment, including but not limited to discharges.
  • Follow-up with recently discharged patients for status updates and inform doctor of patient status as needed. 
  • Obtain authorization and facilitate pharmacy staff with filling in-house prescriptions as well as calling/faxing outside pharmacy prescriptions. 
  • Develop a familiarity and understanding of procedures and estimates to better assist clients with treatment plans. 
  • Must support call distribution center and other department patient care coordinators to ensure that client calls and requests are being processed in a timely manner. 
  • Effectively communicate with co-workers in a respectful manner at all times.
