The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is one of the top 10 suppliers of ECE talent at the BS level in the US, and also ranks in the top 10 ECE Departments in total annual research expenditures (ASEE). Essential Job Duties 

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at North Carolina State University seeks outstanding candidates for a professional track (non-tenure track) teaching faculty position beginning in August 2024. Highly qualified candidates will be considered at the rank of teaching professor, associate teaching professor, assistant teaching professor, senior lecturer, or lecturer.

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in ECE in areas such as electric circuits, microelectronics, semiconductor technology, analog and RF circuit design, VLSI, digital circuit design, signals, controls, and software.
  • Potentially teach specific classes, including ECE 302, 403, 426, and a two-semester tapeout class.
  • Create and deliver course materials in lecture settings for both large and small classes.
  • Assess learning outcomes.
  • Coordinate and supervise teaching assistants.
  • Participate in the development of new courses and curricula in areas of responsibility.
  • Serve on Departmental committees.
  • Act as an academic advisor to undergraduate and/or graduate ECE majors.

  • Doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline

Rank of Associate Teaching Professor:

  • Recognized ability and potential for distinction
  • Demonstrated ability to direct activities in mutually agreed upon realms of responsibility
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to participate in department, college, and university affairs
  • Doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline

Rank of Teaching Professor:

  • Distinguished achievement and demonstrated ability to direct activities in mutually agreed upon realms of responsibility
  • Established reputation in the individual’s profession
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to participate in department, college, and university affairs
  • Doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline

Rank of Lecturer:

  • Ability or potential in the mutually agreed upon realms of responsibility
  • Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent professional experience

Rank of Senior Lecturer:

  • Qualifications for Lecturer
  • At least five years of college-level teaching experience
  • Other Required Qualifications
  • Strong communication and technical skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the designated technical areas

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering preferred, or MS degree with substantial technical experience. Ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses. Previous teaching and student mentoring experience, at the college or advanced high school level.
  • Experience in IC design, including layout, circuit simulation, and lab measurements of analog circuits and systems.
