Residency Requirements: This position is virtual and strongly prefer residents of Texas. May consider residents of surrounding states (NM, OK, AK or LA). This position could include travel up to 20% of the time for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and/or as required by the school.

The English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher Trainer is responsible for implementing a professional development path for each school based on the schools’ and teachers’ individual needs to support ELL program goals. This role will work as a peer leader to support general education and special education teachers with sheltered instructional strategy implementation and researched based best practices for EL students.

This is a full-time REMOTE position. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week is required. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties. 

  • Coordinate with EL Manager to develop a year-long professional development needs analysis and plan;
  • Prepare Face to Face (F2F) and virtual professional development opportunities for each school in collaboration with curriculum specialist and academic administrators;
  • Schedule and coordinates appropriate presenters, conducts training as may be needed;
  • Collaborate with EL Manager and Special Programs Team regarding instruction, resources, interventions and data-driven decision making for ELL support;
  • Provide opportunities for teachers within specific subjects/grade bands the opportunity to connect across content areas as a Professional Learning Community (PLC) Champion;
  • Partner with managers to report on teacher performance and progress through sheltered instruction observation protocol and various EL strategies and best practices;
  • Train and examines English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) to support curriculum maps and content embedding;
  • Assess effectiveness of school-based trainings and presents the results to stakeholders;
  • Manage collaborative space where teachers will share best practices, participate in discussions, participate in problems of practice;
  • Partner with academic administrators on special projects and data collection to support EL program goals;
  • Develop supports for Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) sample collection and teacher rubric training.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree AND
  • Five (5) years of related teaching experience in a virtual setting OR 
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Understanding of effective training methodologies and a true passion for working with adult learners
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of time
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel; Ability to quickly learn new applications 
  • Ability to clear required background check
