Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the Senior Director, Engagement Analytics & Annual Giving, the Engagement Analyst is responsible for analyzing large data sets from a variety of platforms and databases with the goal of creating strategic recommendations for mass solicitation, engagement and communication efforts. Work with various units in University Advancement including Information Management, Annual Giving, Alumni Relations, Communications and others with the goal of prioritizing engagement and solicitation efforts through analysis, statistical modeling, data visualization and key performance indicators (KPI) development. The Engagement Analyst would also be responsible for handling data requests, assisting with data integrity guidelines and partaking in University Advancement’s Analytics Centre of Excellence.

Primary Responsibilities:

Analytics Program

  • Work with the Engagement Analytics team to implement and oversee a comprehensive engagement analytics program, to support the strategic information needs of University Advancement and its various Units through the optimization of mass giving, engagement and communication programs

  • Participate in the creation of a variety of data models and data visualizations that would assist various departments across University Advancement in lead generation, segmentation, interest identification, persona development, broadcast and other mass communication analyses and prioritization/identification of prospects or workflow.

  • Participate in statistical modeling, analysis and reporting to determine and optimize alignment of resources with the strategic plan, including, data mining, predictive modeling, forecasting and statistical analysis to identify trends and patterns in giving, volunteerism, event participation, engagement with content, alumni and donor behaviour, etc.;

  • Participate in the performance reviews of mass program engagement strategies and analysis of constituent surveys.

  • Participate in the development of dashboards, data visualizations and performance reports to measure digital campaigns, social media and website performance.

  • Participate in the development of standards, as led by various Units, in regards to data collection both from internal and external sources

  • Ensure data integrity by investigating anomalies in reported numbers from a variety of sources throughout Advancement

  • Work with Advancement Information Management to ensure reporting standards are adhered to across different departments and units where information is shared.

  • Write/present project reports and executive summaries on a range of philanthropic issues, with particular focus on analytics, KPIs and emerging trends within Engagement.

  • Play an active role in the development and monitoring of KPIs for Engagement, as led by the Unit – including developing reporting and data visualization tools, reviewing existing data structures and researching emerging trends.

  • Participate in University Advancement’s Analytics Centre of Excellence with the aim of creating synergies and best-practices in analytics across University Advancement.

  • Work with Senior Director, Engagement Analytics & Annual Giving to report and present high level trend analyses, financial and engagement projections and data-insights in support of strategic planning for the Senior Management Team.

  • Use analytical techniques to process large volume of data from multiple sources into actionable opportunities.

  • Conduct sophisticated ad hoc query data retrievals; provide analysis of data extracts as required.

  • Assist in the development of data visualization methods and reporting capabilities to enable more effective strategic, tactical, and operational insights and decision-making.

Other Responsibilities

  • Utilize best-in-class data visualization tools to assist other departments in understanding and representing key information.

  • Keep abreast of technology trends and new tools, as well as researching, testing and presenting solutions for integration into existing processes.

  • Actively seek and collect industry trends and benchmarking data that support the business processes/outcomes of McGill University’s fundraising efforts.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • Previous business intelligence or analytics experience in a non-profit fundraising, marketing analytics or customer insights role.

  • Ability to understand business needs formulated by senior management and other internal clients and translate them into actionable analysis and information.

  • Proven experience translating business requirements into data requirements. Ability to write and design reports and produce and deliver informative, well organized presentations.

  • Proven experience in communications and marketing analytics including experience with Salesforce marketing cloud and Google Analytics.

  • Knowledge of Google Analytics 4, SEM campaign strategies and/or SEO practices is an asset.

  • Proven experience with Salesforce CRM workflows, reporting and analytics.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively and confidently with internal clients at all levels within the organization.

  • Knowledge in data extraction and manipulation

  • Technical experience with analysis and visualization tools (e.g. Excel, Power BI, Tableau, R, …)

  • Proven experience with the usage of Python, SQL or DAX for more advanced data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning applications.

  • Creative, well organized and self-motivated, with strong analytical, planning and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.

  • Knowledge of cutting-edge/emerging technologies as they relate to business needs is an asset.

  • Knowledge of and experience in building various statistical and machine learning models is an asset.

  • Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 3 on a scale of 0-4.

A competency assessment may be required, including an open-ended analytical exercise with a presentation.
