Rochambeau, The French International School of Washington, DC (Rochambeau), has an opening for a Full Time English Languages Art & Literature Teacher for the next 2025-2026 school year.

Location: Bethesda, MD 

Job Type: Full-time; Faculty Association Collective Bargaining Unit (CBA) applicable

Salary Information: The salary range is $49,911-$109,469 per the Faculty CBA Salary Scale. Teachers will be hired and employed in the highest category of teaching staff to which they are entitled in accordance with the degrees and certifications that they hold and the subjects and levels that they teach.

Rochambeau, The French International School (“Rochambeau”), located in Bethesda, MD, is an independent and coeducational day school, offering a unique combination of the French curriculum and a high-quality English program to approximately 1,200 students from Preschool (2 years old) through 12th grade. Duties And Responsibilities:

These duties and responsibilities are intended only as examples of the various duties to be performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is a similar, related, or logical assignment to the position. For example, teaching positions are campus-based; therefore, this position requires teachers in person.

Develop students’ skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing; foster communication skills; develop an understanding and appreciation of the literature of all types; motivate students to read a wide variety of publications to derive information; comprehend and critically assess the reading materials, and to promote the development of skills in the field of English reading, grammar, and syntax.

Each teacher is responsible for all aspects of teaching and learning for those classes and students assigned to them. This involves organizing and administering the classes, preparing lesson plans, and teaching within the school guidelines. In addition, each staff member is responsible for promoting high-quality standards throughout their work, particularly maintaining high achievement standards and encouraging all students to fulfill their potential through effective teaching and high expectations.

Develop curriculum, instructional materials, assessment tools, and lesson plans according to students’ needs and interests, fulfilling the IB curriculum’s criteria and U.S. policies. Evaluate students’ academic performance, behavior, social development, and physical health and maintain accurate and complete student records.

Provide remedial programs for students who still need to achieve language competency commensurate with their potential. Meet with department colleagues to evaluate student placement test results, monitor and assess student performance throughout the year to determine each student’s current placement level, and discuss other departmental concerns.

Participate in appropriate in-service programs or other professional development, parent-teacher conferences, and faculty meetings as required or requested.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) in Education with an emphasis in English/Language Arts. Certification in the subject area is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience.
  • An educational background and teaching experience in literature, creative writing, or literary theory are highly valued pathways for this position.
  • Experience in an international school or cross-cultural environment is desired.
