Middle School ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS:

WISH Community School is seeking an exceptional English Language Arts to teach both traditional and honors level ELA classes at the Middle School Level. The successful candidate will be passionate about educating a diverse student body within a whole scholar approach to teaching and learning. Candidates must also exemplify a growth mindset, demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and maintain a positive, professional demeanor. Experience with and commitment to working collaboratively with staff, parents and the greater community is essential.

Duties and Responsibilities: This position reports to the Middle School principal and Executive Director. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide a high quality, constructivist educational program in English/English Language Arts for WISH Charter Middle School students
  • Provide a balanced approach to instruction that incorporates blended learning, project-based learning, direct instruction, interdisciplinary units, and challenge based learning experiences.
  • Utilize personalized and differentiated instruction and supports to empower and inspire learners to reach their highest potential.
  • Establish a safe and inclusive culture of high expectations that embodies the shared belief that important academic, social, and ethical skills and attitudes are developed when students with various strengths, needs, and backgrounds learn together.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver ELA lessons as well as prepare teaching materials individually and collaboratively
  • Utilize different instructional strategies based on student needs
  • Develop and utilize various assessments to guide student instruction
  • Maintain a safe, nurturing, and structured classroom environment
  • Ability to use basic computer applications, interactive boards and other classroom and academic technologies
  • Participate in staff development
  • Participate in SST and IEP meetings
  • Communicate with support staff, administrators, team teachers and parents about student progress
  • Complete and update paperwork/online platforms to ensure that student records are current
  • Desires to work closely with students, colleagues and community in modeling and teaching the values of WISH Charter Schools

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Must have a Single subject English credential

  • Bachelors degree
  • Valid California Single Subject Credential and/or Teaching Authorizations for English/English Language Arts Instruction is mandatory. Clear CTE Credential is preferred.
  • English Language Learner Authorization required: at least one of the following authorizations to teach English Learners: CLAD, BCLAD, AB2913 training (formerly SB395 OR SB1969) or SB2042 EL Authorization.
  • NCLB Highly Qualified

Required knowledge, skills & abilities: • Knowledge of child cognitive development and various learning styles and modalities. • Knowledge of subject matter, including California State Standards; Common Core State Standards, and subject-specific frameworks. • Ability and willingness to implement WISH Instructional Guidelines; Practices, and Core Tenets. • Ability to collaborate with colleagues, parents and community.
