Salary: Teacher Framework (Steps 1-29) Range: $63,280- $112,776. Salary is commensurate with experience and education level.

Developed by a coalition of San Diego civic leaders and educators, High Tech High opened in September 2000 as a small public charter school with plans to serve approximately 450 students. HTH has evolved into an integrated network of sixteen charter schools serving approximately 6,350 students in grades K-12 across four campuses.

HTH seeks EL (English Learner) Teacher to provide instructional support for students at our schools.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the School Director, the Teacher- EL provides instructional support for students who are identified as English Learners in a variety of settings including co-teaching, small group instruction, and in consultation with classroom teachers. The Teacher- EL will demonstrate diversity, equity, and inclusion and model culturally responsive pedagogy. The EL Teachers also conduct all required testing, monitoring student growth and progress toward goals and support outreach, communications, ELAC committees, and professional development.

Duties include:

HTH believes that high-quality instruction, and its continuous refinement, will lead to success for our students. We are looking for teachers who are highly effective in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of research supporting development of EL students, ELD standards and EL supports and testing within California public schools.
  • Coordinate ELPAC testing & complete all annual training modules for the Initial and Summative assessment.
  • Send all required state communications to families regarding student language classification status.
  • Assist in the reclassification process ensuring that all documentation is completed according to the state requirements.
  • Review student assessment data to inform practices and curriculum development for integrated support within core teacher classrooms as well as utilizing California ELD standards and assessment data to plan for designated support.
  • Monitor student progress data to share with stakeholders as all engage in processes for improving student outcomes.
  • Support administration of the CSA for the State Seal of Biliteracy (high school specific).
  • Present information at ELAC meetings, ensuring families know who supports EL students on campus.
  • Advocate for students and families and work to build collaborative relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Responsive to all family communications, helpful in identifying resources and supports, as well as knowledgeable about all school program offerings so as to effectively disseminate information to families.
  • Lead the school in becoming more responsive to ELD needs by providing PD and announcements to staff in regularly scheduled professional development meetings
  • Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the School Director.

The ideal candidate would possess the following competencies:

  • Experience accelerating student learning and achievement
  • Spanish language proficiency
  • Experience and desire to use data and technology as levers to drive instruction
  • Experienced classroom teachers
  • Knowledge of state requirements for testing and supporting EL students.
  • Growth mindset and being able to use feedback to refine practice.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid California Teaching Credential or ability to attain one based on out of state certification
  • CLAD, BCLAD, or English Learner Authorization
  • Complete annual ELPAC training (fall and spring)
