HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER, Grades 9-12, Oakland Unity High School

OAKLAND UNITY HIGH SCHOOL (Unity) was founded in 2003 as an independent charter high school open to all students in Oakland. The mission of Unity is to prepare its students for admission to and success in college and career. Since opening, Unity has established itself as a high impact urban high school, ranking among the top 10% of California public charter schools. Unity has consistently earned Gold Medal ranking (among the top 50 California high schools) from U.S. News and World Report and earned repeat recognition from Innovate Public Schools as one of the most effective of the Bay Area schools targeting students from low-income families. 

Unity is a small school with high expectations and a safe and nurturing environment for teaching and learning. The school annually enrolls approximately 360 students in grades 9-12. Over 85% of Unity students qualify for free or reduced price lunch and over 75% come from immigrant families whose home language is not English. Unity offers a rigorous curriculum and intensive support responsive to the individual developmental and academic needs of students, which allows them to achieve academic success and positive social/cultural development.

Qualifications

• California Teaching Credential (or B.A. and with plan to enter Credentialing program)
• Ability to participate in team work and shared decision-making

Compensation

• Salary and benefits competitive with Oakland Unified School District and other neighboring districts.
• Full health benefits (medical, dental and vision) for the employee and qualifying dependents, paid in full by employer
• Once holding Preliminary or Clear CA Credential: retirement system through the California State Teachers Retirement System (CALSTRS)
• Reimbursement for moving/travel expenses if moving from distance of 50 miles or more
• Optional healthcare flexible spending account
• Optional tax-deferred retirement account 403B
• After three years of employment, eligible for tax-deferred 457B with 3% of salary matched by employer
