English Teacher – Rockingham Youth Development Center

Description of Work

We are looking for candidates who have a passion for helping at-risk youth. 

We are Working Together to Strengthen North Carolina’s Youth and Families!

This position is a 12 month English teaching position at Rockingham Youth Development Center in Reidsville, NC.

Salary is based on the NC Teaching Salary Schedule plus a 6% supplement. 

This position provides students with direct instruction in English utilizing the Common Core State Standards and NC Essential Skills. 

Teachers will be responsible for:

• Planning lessons based on the Common Core/Essential Standards and students individual learning needs.
• Ensuring success with EC students while providing appropriate and engaging activities to teach concepts.
• Providing research-based interventions to provide an appropriate education for EC students.
• Utilizing data to inform all instructional activities based on the NC Standards.
• Implementing IEPs
• Keeping all student records, exceptional children’s program paperwork, and student progress up to date.

This position requires the ability to:

• Observe and communicate observations and recommendations effectively in oral and written form.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position. Work hours for this position are Monday-Friday, 7:30AM-4:00PM.

To qualify for this position, applicants must demonstrate ALL of the following KSAs: 

• Experience providing instruction with solid classroom management techniques.
• Experience establishing rapport with and/or relating to the students served and their families, treatment professionals, and/or campus staff.

Management Preference: These skills are not required but managers may choose to interview/select applicants who demonstrate Management Preferences.

• Experience interpreting the laws that govern programs for students with exceptionalities and applying best practices.
• Experience implementing IEPs for students with exceptionalities and applying best practices.

Highly Qualified valid “A” or “M” NC teaching license in either middle or high school Science subjects OR eligible to hold a NCDPI issued license in Middle School or High School English.
