Job Description
Designed to attract and inspire new audiences, this piece of work is the first step in the development of an updated commercial offer for the Museum across several strands of activity.
Consultants are invited to submit a proposal in response to this brief up to a maximum value of £7,500, exclusive of VAT.
The appointed specialist will develop a new Escape Room programme that combines immersive storytelling, object-based clues, and puzzles inspired by the city’s heritage. This experienced external specialist will be commissioned to design and deliver a professionally produced experience within the museum’s galleries, introducing a new revenue-generating strand as part of the public programme.
Project scope
Storyline and narrative design rooted in Gloucester’s heritage and collections
Puzzle creation using object-based interpretation
Spatial and technical design for an immersive gallery-based experience
Audience testing and refinement
Delivery of a fully operational Escape Room experience
Staff training to ensure long-term sustainability and in-house delivery
Delivery approach
The freelancer will:
Act as the sole contractor, coordinating any additional technical input if required
Ensure the experience is safe, engaging, and operationally sustainable
Work closely with museum staff to build internal capacity for ongoing operation and any future changes required
Work alongside the Museum’s marketing team to support the creation of assets for marketing materials
Practical outputs
Two-three new Escape Room ‘stories’ with full scripts
Bespoke, durable set pieces, props, costumes and interactive elements
AV and technical equipment compatible with existing infrastructure if required
Installation materials, fixings, signage, and health and safety provisions
Staff training materials and operational manuals
Audience-facing full instructions
