WORK WEEK SCHEDULE
Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is available for a Hybrid Telework workweek
POSITION PURPOSE:
Plans, supports, and implements family engagement activities at the district and school levels to engage Multilingual (ML) schools’ families with their students’ academic achievement and with school system procedures and protocols, in order for families to contribute positively to their students’ academic success.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
- Knowledge of WCPSS Essential Standards, and WIDA 2020 Framework
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; knowledge of web-based applications;
- Critical thinking skills with the ability to solve problems;
- Effective time management skills;
- Ability to present information and provide training to large and small groups;
- Ability to perform data analysis and make data-driven decisions;
- Ability to organize, design, and deliver parent learning experiences related to literacy and math instruction;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, community agencies/organizations, businesses, and faith-based institutions.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
- Three years of experience in public education;
- Experience designing and delivering professional development to adults in large and small group settings;
- Experience working with multilingual learners.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina professional educators license with licensure in English as a Second Language;
- Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of North Carolina requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in Education;
- Bi-lingual (English and Spanish);
- Experience working with multilingual parents on ways in which to help their children succeed in school.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans, supports, and implements family engagement activities at the district and school levels to engage multilingual (ML) schools’ families with their students’ academic achievement.
- Facilitates parent workshops to support and empower parents to positively impact the educational success of their children and to become effective advocates for themselves and their children.
- Assists parents in navigating the Wake County Public School System procedures and protocols in order for families to contribute positively to their students’ academic success.
- Collects and analyzes data to determine future needs of parent workshops.
- Assists with planning and scheduling workshops and other parent events that will support Title III programs.
- Works collaboratively with Academics, Title I, English as a Second Language (ESL), Special Education, Student Support Services, the McKinney-Vento program, and other programs and departments to ensure that parent events are aligned with school system initiatives.
- Assists in developing and revising procedural and guidance documents in compliance with Title III regulations and guidelines.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force.
