ESL LINC Instructor – PT CLB 4 / 5 Online class

Position Summary: The LINC Instructor is responsible for the planning, delivery, and assessment of language instruction to adult newcomer students in the LINC program, as well as providing required reports and documentation to the Program Manager.

· Conduct needs assessment with studentsand create course outlines for each quarter based on students’ identified needs

· Plan theme-based lessons and modules that are aligned with the CLBs and meet the expectations of Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA)

· Develop and administer level-appropriate, real-world assessment tasks in Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing

· Deliver appropriate and creative instruction in language development while also teaching about Canada and Canadian culture

· Ensure task-based delivery of lessons, using a variety of materials, strategies, and techniques to keep students engaged

· Assess student performance on daily class work and assessment tasks, provide ongoing feedback to students, and help students maintain a portfolio of their class work

· Collaborate with members of the LINC instructional and administrative team to share experience, ideas, initiatives, and to support each other in creating a cohesive team environment for all staff and students

· Manage the classroom to ensure an optimum learning environment working with culturally diverse populations

· Attend and participate in regular staff meetings and relevant professional development opportunities, including conferences. Online or in-person

· Maintain accurate daily attendance registers, and submit all required documents including final grades, course outlines, and semester reports as required

· Utilize formative as a part of regular Google classroom class assignments.

· Maintain a Master Portfolio of SUA and AT that include competencies and four language skills.

· Maintain with learners a Language Companion either e-binder or paper copies according to PBLA requirements.

· Adhere to all LINC, ASSIST, PBLA, and funder policies and expectations

Qualifications and Skills:

· Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Teaching English recognized by TESL Canada

· Bachelor’s degree

· Excellent oral and written English communication skills

· Previous teaching experience preferred

· Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity of Canadian Language Benchmarks, Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA), and Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT)

· Good knowledge of Canada and Canadian culture, experience living and working in Canada

· Experience with multi-cultural clientele, especially those with limited English skills

· Able to work independently without supervision and contribute to a team

· Experience using Google Suite, including Google classroom and additional applications

· Experience using Formative will be an asset.

· Highly organized, with exceptional time-management, decision-making, and prioritization skills

· Strong computer skills

· First-aid training an asset
