Rochambeau, The French International School of Washington, DC (Rochambeau), has an opening for a full-time English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.

Job Type: Full-time; Faculty Association Collective Bargaining Unit (CBA) applicable
Salary Information: The salary range is $49,911-$109,469 per the Faculty CBA Salary Scale. Teachers will be hired and employed in the highest category of teaching staff to which they are entitled in accordance with the degrees and certifications that they hold and the subjects and levels that they teach.

Position Overview:
The position is responsible for providing ESL instruction to students who do not understand, speak, read, or write English by creating a classroom environment that develops competencies, knowledge, and skills per each student’s ability.
Role and Responsibilities:

- Teaches skills and knowledge utilizing curriculum designated by the school and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school.
- Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials that are compatible with the basic department’s instructional philosophy and are compatible with course / SOL standards.
- Adapts the curriculum to provide individual, small group, or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual student and the needs of identified subgroups of students.
- Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, prepare report cards, and keep appropriate records, including attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities, as necessary.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health, and attitude problems.
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress. Serves as liaison between the school and the parent/guardian of the ESL students.
- Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices.
Other Duties:
1. Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities.
2. Participates in various student and parent activities that occur in school, including PTA, student clubs, and after-school activities.
3. Creates an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers.
4. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the school director or other appropriate administrator.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required):
- Must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English as a Second Language and/or meet the MSDE licensure eligibility requirements.
- Must possess a certificate or license with the appropriate endorsement to teach English as a Second Language.
- Minimum two years of teaching experience.
- Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
Requirements
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English and French is desirable, facilitating effective communication in our multilingual community.
- Independence and Management: Excellent judgment, problem-solving skills, and the ability to turn strategy into action.
- Communication: Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders. Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Software: Proficiency in industry-specific programs, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google platforms.
