Who are we?
 
The CCSA is the lead European trade association representing over 130 organisations accelerating the commercial deployment Carbon Capture, Use and Storage (or CCUS) through advocacy and collaboration.  Our ambition is to see CCUS developed and deployed at the pace and scale necessary to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and deliver sustainable growth across regions and nations.
 
We represent a wide variety of organisations with an interest in the development and deployment of CCUS across many applications to decarbonise heavy industries, power and hydrogen production, and remove carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere. The CCSA team works across two offices, with staff based in Brussels and London.
 
Independent Board Director
 
As part of its annual strategy review, the CCSA Board has identified the need to evolve the governance of the CCSA to better reflect its ambition to be a European trade association.
 
For this reason, we are looking for a new Senior Independent Director who is based in the EU and who can represent non-commercial interests.
 
 
The role of the CCSA Board – desired competencies
 
The CCSA seeks a diverse Board of Directors, comprising individuals from different backgrounds (including those from outside the ‘CCUS sector’ or energy industry) who can fulfil one or more of the following competencies and complement each other. The Nominations Committee will be seeking to ensure that all of the competences below are covered by the collective board members.
 
Strategic skills
  • understanding of the global Net Zero/climate change, energy and environment stakeholder landscape within which the CCSA sits;experience in guiding an organisation through a strategic review process, agreeing and implementing a change of direction;
  • experience in monitoring performance and risk, setting internal controls and monitoring requirements.
  • Core business knowledge and member representation
  • understanding of CCUS technology and its current status in the UK, EU and internationally;
  • knowledge of government institutions in the UK, EU and internationally;
  • understanding of how trade associations operate;
Commercial skills
  • experience of developing or adapting business processes to align with changes in the market and ensuring a business remains profitable;
  • accomplished stakeholder management skills, including across public and private sectors;
  • awareness of the trends in the employment market and the latest thinking on maintaining a skilled and motivated workforce.
Independence
  • At least two independent (non-voting) directors representing external stakeholder interests, preferably with experience of either: a) policy and regulatory stakeholders or b) civil society stakeholders; who are able to:
  • Provide an independent perspective as someone who is not currently attached to a member organisation; and/or
  • Represent a key stakeholder who is engaged with the work of the CCSA.
  • Bring a breadth of experience of working within, or closely alongside, policy and regulatory stakeholders or civil society stakeholders.
In the Senior EU Independent Director to be appointed in March 2025, the CCSA board is looking for a leader who can:
 
  • Support the Chair and secretariat during, and in preparation of, board meetings, to ensure that EU perspectives are fully considered;
  • Lead a sub governance structure and ensure they are fit for purpose for a European trade association;
  • Mentor the EU Director and engage in senior representation activities.

14 March The latest date by which Board recommended candidates are notified that they have been approved to stand.
