We’re seeking an Evaluation Consultant to support Art UK’s Open Access Program.

Job Description

Purpose of the Role

The Evaluation Consultant will be required to:

Create an evaluation framework for the project’s development phase, providing the Art UK project team with a methodology for the Art UK team to reflect on lessons learned and determine which aspects of the project will be taken forward to the delivery phase. The Art UK team use this to create a short evaluation report to be submitted to the National Lottery Heritage Fund with the final development phase report.

Work with the Art UK project team to create a framework and toolkit, based on a Theory of Change model, for the project’s delivery phase, covering collections, educators and their students, and members of the public. The plan will include recommendations for what is evaluated and why, evaluation methodologies and metrics that tie in with the proposed activity plan (produced by a separate Engagement Plan consultant), reporting, and who will deliver this, in accordance with National Lottery best practice guidance.

Contract Type: Freelance consultancy

Duration: 6 days (March – June 2026)

Fee: £4,000+VAT

Location: Remote (UK-based)

Reporting to: Head of Development

Job Requirements

Ideal Consultant Profile

Experience in developing and implementing monitoring and evaluation systems

Experience of analysing monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment data in order to draw meaningful conclusions and reports

Experience of training and supporting others

First-class written and spoken communication skills and the confidence to engage effectively with a range of people

Self-motivation and reliability

Experience of working on National Lottery-funded educational or activity projects Significant knowledge and familiarity with the ‘Evaluation Good Practice Guidance’ set out on the NLHF website and good understanding of NLHF’s four investment principles under its 10-year strategy, Heritage 2033, and their application to this project.
