EVENT & EXPERIENCE MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF PRACTICE POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The Howard Feiertag Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) in the Pamplin College of Business, Virginia Tech, invites applications for the position of Assistant / Associate Professor of Practice of Event & Experience Management to begin August 2023. Event & Experience Management (EEM) at Virginia Tech is on a growth trajectory: the Department currently offers an EEM minor with over 200 students and is planning to offer an EEM major starting in Fall 2024.

Job Description

This position is an Academic Year (9 month, August to May), full time teaching appointment starting on August 10, 2023. The selected individual will teach up to four 3-credit hour undergraduate courses on subjects related to event management, meetings and conventions, facilities management, event technologies and other hospitality courses; assist the EEM lead faculty with program development and industry relations; serve in an advising capacity for student clubs and associations; serve on departmental and college committees; and, support the development and implementation of departmental events. Additional summer school teaching may be available. Applicants who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the inclusion and diversity goals of the university are encouraged to apply.

Required Qualifications

A Master’s degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management or related field
Extensive professional experience in event management sales and operations
Demonstrated record of or potential for teaching across a broad range of topics in the area of event management
Occasional travel to national and international conferences
Extensive networks in the hospitality and tourism industry
Ability to contribute toward a collegial classroom and work environment

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated passion for working with students of diverse backgrounds and helping them achieve their personal and professional goals
