The University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Director of Wisconsin Public Media.

The Executive Director of Wisconsin Public Media (WPM) provides strategic leadership, guidance, and administrative oversight for the services of PBS Wisconsin and Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR) in partnership with the Wisconsin Educational Communications Board (ECB). For more than 100 years, public broadcasting in Wisconsin has been a leader in broadcast excellence and innovation; WPM has strong fundraising performance and successful stewardship of resources. The Executive Director establishes and nurtures relationships at the local, state and national levels to advance and support public media through balancing the interests of multiple partners while focusing on meeting audience and stakeholder needs and preferences.

As one of the largest public media organizations in the nation, WPM is uniquely positioned to leverage evolving technologies to deliver content across the state via dozens of broadcast signals and subchannels, streaming, and multiple digital platforms. Working within a complex governance structure, the Executive Director leads a media service that represents and reflects the people of Wisconsin and fulfills the mandates of FCC licenses owned by the UW Board of Regents.

The Executive Director’s work is significantly focused on building organizational resilience and leveraging emerging opportunities through work with external partners and prospective partners, including diverse educational, not-for-profit and civic organizations. The Executive Director has a key leadership role in charting a course for a dynamic, impactful organization that delivers vital content to Wisconsin and beyond, at a moment of substantial change and opportunity in the public media landscape.

Nested within the University of Wisconsin–Madison, a top research institution, the Executive Director reports to the Provost’s office. The ideal candiate will have a demonstrated history of increasingly more responsible leadership positions in media or higher education or equivalent and will demonstrate strategic leadership and management skills in complex organizations, with experience in budgeting across diverse revenue streams, fundraising, and board governance.
