Job Summary
Job Description
Production & administration
- In collaboration with Curators, internal and external partners, coordinate the smooth delivery of exhibitions.
- Provide timely and efficient coordination between the Exhibitions Department and the wider museum, ensuring that exhibition information is clearly communicated.
- Oversee the development of 2D and 3D elements of exhibitions, making sure that Health and Safety and access requirements are met.
- Manage tendering processes and contract administration.
- Oversee the coordination of loan agreements, object transport and insurance arrangements.
- Working with the Environmental Impact team, contribute to the museum’s action plan to reduce the environmental impact of exhibitions and displays.
- Exhibition Budget management and reporting
Installation & de-rig
- Plan and manage installation and de-rig periods, leading a largely freelance technical team and overseeing all activities on site, including condition reporting.
- Complete risk assessments and H&S management of technical team.
- Oversee the relationship with on-site contractors.
Touring
- Champion Touring activity across the museum and keep Touring at the forefront of exhibition development
- Compile the tour pack and materials post-installation of each Kensington exhibition.
- Project manage the delivery of touring exhibitions including installation and de-rig at host venues as required.
People management
This role may undertake line management responsibility of an Exhibitions Coordinator, if required.*
- *Line manage, Exhibition Coordinators, leading and inspiring them to achieve the highest level of performance and develop their skills and talents to enable them to reach their full potential.
- Manage cross-departmental communication for exhibitions.
Job Requirements
Terms and conditions
Salary: up to £31,500 per annum, dependent on experience
Contract: Fixed-term (until 31 December 2025)
Holidays: 25 days pro rata + Christmas eve (museum closed)
Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: Design Museum Kensington is the place of work, with a hybrid arrangement of 60% of an employee’s role to be performed at the museum and 40% remote
Closing date: Monday 01 July 2024, midnight
