This project will develop the scientific understanding on refill friction stir spot welding of dissimilar metals joining with a view towards future industrial applications.

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver novel research as part of a vibrant research group and closely collaborate with an external partner.

This will be a detailed experimental (characterisation and mechanical testing) and numerical (thermomechanical modelling) investigation, although specific research tasks will be identified in line with the candidate’s skills. Work will be conducted jointly with the Graz University of Technology (TU Graz), Strathclyde’s long-standing international strategic partner.

Participating in this project carries additional benefits such as research visits abroad, significant (engineering and soft) skills building activities, networking and reporting to a wider group and industrial partners, accessing and working with unique pieces of equipment, etc.
