Job Summary Job Summary Purpose Statement The ideal candidate is a passionate educator with deep content knowledge, strong pedagogical skills, and a commitment to fostering critical thinking, and communication. This teacher will inspire students through rigorous, engaging, and discussion-based instruction across a range of English courses. Beyond the classroom, the teacher will serve as an advisor, and community member, supporting students’ academic, personal, and social growth. Key Responsibilities Teach four sections of high school English, covering a range of courses, including college-prep and/or Honors English. Design and implement engaging, inquiry-based curricula that foster critical thinking,literary analysis, and writing skill development. Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including ELL and advanced students. Create and sustain a climate of trust, respect, and inclusion, encouraging students to take intellectual risks. Provide timely, clear, and constructive feedback on student work. Serve as an advisor, supporting students’ academic and personal growth. Lead or moderate at least one co-curricular activity, such as a club, affinity group, publication, athletic program, or other programming (equivalent in load to teaching one class). Participate actively in faculty collaboration, professional learning communities, and interdisciplinary initiatives. Contribute to experiential learning opportunities, including retreats and service-learning projects. Support admissions efforts, including school tours, open houses, and prospective student events. Bachelor’s degree in English, Comparative Literature, or a related field.
Minimum of three years of high school teaching experience, with a successful track record of innovative and effective instruction.
Experience working with English Language Learners (ELL) and/or international students.
Experience working with diverse learners and meeting the needs of students diagnosed with learning and attention differences.
Experience developing and implementing curricula that integrate diverse perspectives and texts.
Background in equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
Proficiency with educational technology, including Learning Management Systems (LMS).
Commitment to student-centered, discussion-based, and interdisciplinary learning approaches.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in English, Education, or a related field.
California Single Subject Teaching Credential (or equivalent).
Familiarity with project-based learning, differentiated instruction, and assessment for learning.
