The Concepción Mesquita Multicultural Center at Lane Community College is pleased to invite applications for the position of Latinx Student Program Coordinator. The Multicultural Center (MCC), located in Building 1 on the Main Campus, creates an atmosphere of belonging where students from all ethnic backgrounds can receive information on admission, registration, course and program planning, student success, and referrals to on-campus and community services. The MCC also houses several student unions, for example, Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (MECHA), Black Student Union (BSU), Native American Student Association (NASA), and Asian and Pacific Islander Student Union (APISU). This position will involve coordinating with local school districts; implementing bridge, transition, and college readiness programs such as the Puertas Abiertas Leadership Academy; working with programs such as OSU Juntos and Downtown Languages; and assisting the student union, e.g. MECHA, with cultural and outreach events.
Position Information
The Latinx Student Coordinator supports Latinx students at Lane Community College. Program goals include helping students to make a smooth transition to college, helping students identify available resources, and providing follow-up services, and offering a variety of opportunities to learn about Latinx culture, values, and traditions. The Latinx Student Coordinator may assist efforts of Lane Community College to attain a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) status. The selected candidate will actively work to support the education and success of Chicano/Mexicano/Hispanic/Latinx and Caribbean students. The selected candidate will work to design and provide programs that increase student and campus understanding of historical, current, and emergent strengths, contributions, and challenges facing this community. The selected candidate will contribute directly to Latinx student education by providing student support services, mentoring students, advising the student organization, e.g. MECHA, possibly teaching classes as assigned by the college within the position’s 1.0 FTE, and event planning with various college units, for example, with the student organization and the bridge and leadership programs. The Coordinator will guide Latinx students in exploring their culture and identity and defining a future for themselves. Close collaboration with the local community, local schools, and community groups around the state will also be expected. Bilingual, Spanish/English Language Skills strongly desired.
Faculty members are expected to be skilled educators, with a passion for teaching and continuous improvement in best practices that support equitable student success. The primary responsibilities of full-time faculty is to provide quality education and teaching in a range of community college courses, which may include transfer and/or career technical courses, and to engage in academic professional activities which advance the goals of the College and Division. Faculty members are responsible for following College and Division policies and procedures in support of teaching and learning.

Position Purpose:
Contracted faculty members are professional educators with the primary responsibilities of providing instruction and academic student support services respectfully, equitably, and inclusively to a diverse, multicultural, and multilingual student population, and professional activities contributing to the college, in alignment with Lane’s Vision, Mission, and Values.
This position performs all of the duties of a full-time educator and college instructor including: instruction of college courses in multiple modalities as assigned, which may include both in-person and online environments; curriculum development and course design; outcomes assessment and program review; mentoring students; professional development; participation in discipline leadership, division and college business; and other professional duties as assigned.

Supervision Statement:
The Dean of Student Engagement is the supervisor of this Program Coordinator position. The dean will provide guidance and direction to the coordinator regarding responsibilities, including program oversight and authority. The program coordinator may provide direction and set priorities for other workers as directed by the Dean.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
This position works in varied environments. May be exposed to usual office, industry, education, and commercial working conditions that include noises, interruptions, equipment, telephones, and visitors. This position requires that an employee be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time. May perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day. Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work safely.
