The School of Education is an academic unit reporting to the Provost. The School is a major center of research, teaching, and public service within the State of North Carolina, the nation, and the world. The School offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs. The mission of the School of Education is to conduct research, and generate basic and applied knowledge about human development, educational technology and entrepreneurship, teaching and learning school counseling, school psychology, administration, as well as educational policy and leadership; prepare leaders in the profession of education by conducting outstanding research, teaching, and service; and assist in the development of strong and effective public schools in North Carolina. In order to fulfill its mission, the School is organized into three academic divisions: (1) Culture, Curriculum, & Teacher Education (CCATE), (2) Learning, Development & Psychological Sciences (LDPS), and (3) Educational Policy, Organization, & Leadership (EPOL).
Position Summary
The School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a faculty position in School Counseling at the rank of Clinical Assistant, Clinical Associate, or Clinical Professor, starting May 1, 2025. We seek candidates with professional experience in school counseling and a passion for training future counselors. This full-time 12-month position is for a two-year term with the potential for renewal for additional terms.
Candidates will: a) teach graduate courses in the School Counseling program in face to face, online, and/or blended formats; b) contribute to the ongoing development of the school counseling program; and c) other service duties. This position will primarily teach courses, supervise student fieldwork, advise and mentor students, and provide other important teaching/mentoring-related activities. Specific courses may include: Practicum, Internship, Career Development/College Access, Test and Measurement, Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, or other courses in areas of expertise or as needed. This position has a standard distribution of effort that includes 70% teaching and instruction, 20% service, and 10% professional development, research, and/or other projects.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program. Required qualifications include: a) practical experience as a school counselor (license eligible in NC), b) a superior record of teaching and training in school counseling, including clinical courses and counseling core curriculum, and c) knowledge of CACREP standards and requirements.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience in strength-based counseling, supervision of students in school-based counseling experience, and a commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues in the School, the University, and the Profession.
