BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 28 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. Domestically, our 28 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.
SCOPE OF INTERN WORK: The Career Programs Intern will support the Career Development Specialist and Career Development Coordinator in delivering comprehensive career development services to refugee clients. These services aim to help clients earn industry-recognized certifications in fields such as Allied Healthcare, Information Technology, Manufacturing, and more. Additionally, the intern will assist Career Program staff in conducting on-site literacy and workforce preparation activities and classes at the IRC. These efforts are designed to enhance students’ literacy and work readiness skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist Career Program staff with outreach and enrollment process of the clients.
Support Career Development staff with a variety of projects and administrative tasks, including data entry, filing, and database quality assurance.
Support Career Program staff with post–class follow-ups.
Work individually with clients with resume review, job searching, networking opportunities, and interview preparation.
Provide one-on-one technical assistance sessions to participants with limited English proficiency.
Develop guides and resources in multiple professional fields and prepare curriculums.
Assist training staff with other tasks as assigned.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Intern will increase their knowledge of refugee population in San Diego and challenges they face specifically in workforce.
Intern will learn how to render direct service to clients regarding employment.
Intern will receive training and familiarity in data entry and data analysis.
