The Pawnee Indian Health Center is a Joint Commission accredited federal facility in Oklahoma. Responsibilities

  • Shifts are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30pm., Monday through Friday
  • Contract Family Practice Physicians shall be paid for actual performance, not for standby or on-call. Payment for any leave, including sick leave or vacation time, and holiday pay is the responsibility of the Contractor.
  • All services to be performed by the contract Family Practice Physicians shall be performed in accordance with Indian Health Service (IHS) policies and procedures and the regulations of the on-site medical staff by-laws.
  • Family Practice Physician services shall be under the direction of the Clinical Director or designee.
  • Contract Family Practice Physicians shall act in a thoroughly professional manner at all times. She/he shall work in harmony with other members of the professional and technical staff, in keeping with the established patterns of interaction at the IHS facilities sites where they are working. Tact and courtesy are mandatory when interacting with patients and staff.
  • IHS will have support staff and facilities available in Lab, pharmacy & radiology technicians, RNs, LPNs, admitting staff, social workers/case managers, mental health physician, etc.
  • Records shall be completed within 24 hours of patient visit in accordance with facility by-laws and policies. Medical Records will be checked each pay period for incomplete charts.
  • Contractor’s performance shall be in compliance with CMS and TJC requirements.
  • The number of patients to be seen shall be no less than an estimated 20 per eight (8) hour work day.
  • Examine, diagnose, and develop treatment plans and recommendations for patients seen.
  • Recommend and refer patients to other Indian Health Service providers and Purchase Referred Care vendors within appropriate IHS guidelines.
  • The physician shall be proficient in electronically documenting services utilizing the appropriate electronic medical record system for patient encounters; complete all required administrative paperwork within 24-hours of patient visit to include electronic consults, co-signatures, completion of chart or Risk Management Reviews, unusual occurrences and peer review, as required.
  • The physician shall be responsible for actions necessary for The Joint Commission (TJC) standard compliance and administrative policies, as directed.
  • Provide physician service and staff same day clinic, as needed.
  • The contractor shall complete all annual training required by the Clinical Director and IHS/HHS policies.

Qualifications

  • To ensure that physicians providing services under this contract are properly licensed, and that the IHS is made aware of all disciplinary actions taken against each physician, the Contractor shall:
  • Verify through the Federation of State Medical Boards database, all active, inactive, and lapsed licenses that are held or have been held by physicians who provide services in IHS hospitals and clinics under this contract.
  • Inform the IHS of the status of all licenses for each physician who would provide services under this contract in IHS hospital and clinics, including all reasons for each inactive or lapsed license.
  • Provide all information regarding performance and disciplinary actions that is collected on physicians who would be placed under this contract to the receiving IHS facility Clinical Director. This includes all information that is collected and compiled on such physicians at the time of initial hire by the Contractor, and/or information that is reported during periods that the Contractor is an agent of such physicians for a placement under this contract.
  • Certify that all information obtained on physicians whom they would assign to IHS hospital and clinics has been reviewed and verified by the Contractor. The Certification shall include a statement that the Contractor has found no reason to reject the physician’s application. The names of the contacts, their titles, telephone numbers, date of contacts and the name(s) of the Contractor’s representative(s) collecting and reviewing such information shall be recorded in writing and made available to the IHS by the contractor.
  • Shall provide a complete Indian Health Service Medical Staff Application to include documentation of work history since graduation from professional school to present day in chronological order. Any time period of gaps greater than 30 days since graduation from professional school, shall be explained and a person with contact information who can verify the gaps. Complete Medical Staff Applications are to be provided to the proper credentialing office within ten business days or the facility reserves the right to move on to the next candidate.
  • Physicians who spend 50 percent or more of their clinical time under contract with the Federal Government, and prescribe controlled substances shall obtain IHS Opioid Prescriber Training and provide Certification within six months of appointment and every 3 years after.
  • Shall provide documentation and maintain current professional liability insurance coverage in the amounts of $1 million per occurrence and $3 million aggregate per provider.
  • Permanent, current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • The physician(s) shall be Board Certified in or Board Eligible in Family Practice.
  • Physician(s) provided by the Contractor shall apply and be accepted as clinic/hospital associate member.
  • Successful completion of a residency program in an approved Family Practice, Family Practice or Training Program.
  • Shall provide a copy of documentation of physicians Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) and if needed Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificates.
  • Shall speak, understand, read and write English fluently and communicate with sufficient clarity to be understood by IHS personnel and patients.
  • Shall provide a copy of documentation of past insurance carriers during the past 10 years.
  • Shall possess sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity such that he/she can relate constructively to patients of the Native American communities.
  • Shall maintain standards of personal hygiene and grooming such that his/her image as a physician is compatible with the expectations of the on-site supervisor
  • Contractor shall be required to develop familiarity and abide by current policies, procedures, by-laws and regulation of the on-site clinical and medical staff
  • The contractor shall perform services in compliance with applicable standards of the Joint Commission (TJC), which is available to the general public and the Professional Services Policies of the IHS Manual, which is available from the IHS.
