TEEX Field Medic

$19.95/hour

The Field Medic administers life support care to sick and injured persons at Brayton Fie Training Field and other sites as designated and authorized. You will provide medical care of both staff and students on the fire field and other assigned locations. You will be responsible for assessing the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance. Responsibilities include observations, records, patient reports on conditions following the established protocol and procedures. You will also be responsible for safety inspections related to issues regarding maintenance and construction on the fire field to include issuance of work permits, perform work audits, periodic safety audits and other safety related duties as assigned. This position reports to the EHS Program Coordinator.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • One year as an EMT/Paramedic

  • One year experience as a TCFP Basic Firefighter

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • TDSHHS EMT-Paramedic

  • TCFP Firefighter-Basic

  • A valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university

  • 5 years as an EMT/Paramedic and two years as a TCFP Basic Firefighter

  • Operational experience as a released, working paramedic with a 911 service

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat.

  • Ability to lift 100 lbs. or more with a team member.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Fire Field EMS Protocols.

  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff.

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively.

  • Ability to make important decisions and perform inspections of safety related tasks on the fire field.

Equipment:

  • LifePak 12 and 15

  • Multi-Rae Gas Detector

  • TEEX Medical Mule (when assigned)

  • TEEX ASAP apparatus (daily)

  • ESO reporting knowledge and skills

  • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone

  • Other equipment as assigned

Notifications:

  • This position is security-sensitive.

  • This position will require an alternate work schedule outside of standard office hours. This position will require nights and weekends.

  • This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role. This position should average one to two course deliveries a month.

  • This position has reasonably anticipated exposure to bloodborne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials.

  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.

  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.

Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

Provide medical care of both staff and students on the fire field– 80%:

  • Provides medical care to sick and injured persons at the Brayton Fire Field and other designated locations as specified by the supervisor.

  • Assesses the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance.

  • Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition following established protocol and procedures.

Inspect and perform safety related issues – 20%:

  • Inspect and perform safety related issues regarding maintenance and construction on the fire field

Other Duties:

  • Performs additional work duties as assigned

  • As part of the TEEX’s mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position could be required, if called upon, to deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position’s Division Director/HQ Department Head
